Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while inaugurating the 135km Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) in western Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat on Sunday, stressed that the focus of his government has been on developing infrastructure. The PM added that the Union government has spent Rs. 3 lakh crore for construction of 28,000km of new highways in the past four years. Highways, railways, airways and I-ways have been the focus of the government, PM Modi said. The EPE, which is estimated to cost Rs. 11,000 crore and was completed in record time of 500 days against estimated 910 days, is expected to reduce Delhi’s pollution by 27.48%. It is a fully access controlled six-lane expressway with entry/exit through seven designated interchanges. The EPE has a closed tolling system in which toll will be collected only for the distance travelled.
