The Yamuna Expressway industrial development authority (Yeida) has decided to spend R100 crore on developing 80 villages, located along the 165-km Yamuna Expressway that connects Greater Noida with Agra, this financial year. Sources said the move is aimed at facilitating land acquisition for the ‘Noida International airport project’ proposed at Jewar along the Yamuna e-way.The ministry of civil aviation had on April 23 given an in-principle approval to the airport project which has an estimated budget of ₹15,000-₹20,000 crore and expected to be operational in 2022-23. The Yeida and the consultant for the airport project, PWC, are busy preparing bid document so that the process of hiring a concessionaire can be started in July this year. To complete this project as per scheduled deadline, the Yeida and the Gautam Budh Nagar administration will have to buy land directly from the farmers instead of acquisition under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, as it will take longer time. The administration is expected to start acquiring land from June.
